About Us 西谷簡介
Established in 1963, West Valley Chinese Language School (WV) is the oldest Chinese language and culture learning after-school program in the Santa Clara County . WV is also the only school in the County that teaches primarily Cantonese-Chinese. At WV, classes are offered for kindergarten through 12th-grade school-age learners. Our teachers work to develop the proficiency of students in the four basic skills of language-learning: listening, conversation, reading, and writing. The spoken Chinese language taught at WV is Cantonese and students learn to read and write traditional Chinese characters. Chinese culture, history, and traditions are interspersed throughout the lessons at every grade-level for students to learn about, and have a better understanding and appreciation of, China , its civilization, and its people. Students in 4th grade and above also learn Han-yu-pin-yin. WV is the first Chinese school in the County to have established an active student council. Students in 6th grade and above join the council each year to learn about and experience governance and leadership. Members of the student council work to support WV’s participation in local food drives, fund-raisers, and various community events. Classes meet from September through May, every Friday, from 7 – 9 pm , at Homestead High School located at 21370 Homestead Road , in Cupertino , CA . Our holiday schedules are the same as those of the Fremont Union High School District .
WVCLS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, supported by the volunteered efforts of parents and a group of dedicated teachers.
